What will people think?

 -Umm ‘Eesa

Being a Muslim today we think is tough
Whatever we do just doesn’t seem enough
Criticized we are from head to toe
So a secular picture we want to show

Shave off that beard, discard that hijab
Pants below the ankles, outdated is the jilbab
Just take a puff, have a drink or two,
Pleasing people is so important to you.

Oh its only one date and the last one is this
Only a night out, just one salah to miss
Christmas sweets-you can’t refuse your friend
So just appear non religious, just pretend.

But how long, O believer, with this hypocrisy?
How far from Allah will you flee?
What not will you do for mere people around!
And then in distress you prostrate to the ground!

So where are the people you used to please?
Left you have they, upon your knees?
You put your faith in danger for their sake,
Yet, Allah will forgive you for your mistake.

Did you finally get the acceptance, the praise?
The love you yearned for with those haram ways?
People will live for a century or less
Then we return to Allah, for the final address.

So was it really worth it- those unbound fears
Sacrificing our Afterlife for these few years?
Let’s look back and see: what have we gained?
Is it confidence and strength or misery and pain?

We may be ridiculed and forsaken too,
But you know the Hereafter is there for you
And that’s the real life, the life to come,
In comparison, this world is not even a crumb

The dunya is only an enjoyment of deception
Shaitan tricks us to follow every desire and whim
So what must we do? Put our trust in Allah.
Our goal is Jannah, it’s not very far.

Was the Prophet spared from being insulted, reviled?
Or to the fear of people was he tied?
Did he ever think the world would shun him?
The answer is evident in the population of Muslims.

They called him a mad man, sorcerer, a liar,
But that only made his Iman soar higher
Intestines of animals they threw on him
Tortured and tormented he was to the brim

Abused and slandered, his companions were
But the life of the akhera they did prefer
Whether one or a hundred called them names
They did not care if their houses went up in flames.

What iman, what piety and trust in Allah!
You can do it too, who said you are barred?
Stand firm for Islam, for Truth and justice
For sure Allah’s pleasure you don’t want to miss.

Yes, you can change, this moment on,
Come on, admit it, hasn’t the realization dawned?
Allah’s hands are ever open for you
Just take that first step to start anew.

Now, dear believer, fear none but your Lord.
Give up all those lies and get on board
Obey Allah, be truthful to Him
It will wash away unhappiness and your numerous sins.
